Hiking in the western area of Garajonay National Park (easy level)

Botanical walk to discover the treasures of the Garajonay National Park. You will explore one of the most emblematic areas of the national park: Raso de La Bruma, Las Creces. Your guide will introduce you to the incredible botanical richness of the laurel forest (the main ecosystem of this protected natural space). This ecosystem is fascinating in many ways: it is teeming with incredible biodiversity, provides insights into species evolution, and shelters species of very old trees that are now extinct on the African and European continents. Your guide will reveal the beauties of this ancient forest, which is in excellent conservation state. This will also help you understand what the plants and animals of this ecosystem have to tell us about the natural history of this island and our planet. This guided excursion is aimed at various audiences: nature and botany enthusiasts, families, and more.

Details of the experience

  • Hike

    Walk through the laurel forest

The hike crosses areas where the vegetation becomes particularly lush: giant heathers, laurels, ferns and mosses covering trunks and rocks like a living carpet. At Raso de la Bruma, the landscape turns more intimate and quiet, wrapped in mist. At Las Creces, by contrast, the forest opens up, allowing us to understand how geology and climate have shaped this unique ecosystem over time.

Throughout the walk, we interpret natural elements, ecological processes and the historical relationship between Gomera’s communities and the forest.

This is an easy hike, with very little elevation gain and a comfortable trail, ideal for anyone wishing to enjoy nature without physical effort while discovering an environment rich in history and biodiversity.

  • Lunch

Lunch break: Casa Efigenia or picnic

Around midday, we take a break for lunch.

Casa Efigenia, located in Las Hayas, is a true institution in La Gomera — a vegetarian restaurant that preserves the essence of the island’s traditional cuisine. For decades, Gomera’s inhabitants reserved meat and fish for special occasions, so everyday cooking was based on simple, local dishes deeply connected to the territory.

Here you can taste some emblematic specialties such as:

    • almogrote, a Gomera cheese paste with garlic and pepper
    • escaldón de gofio, one of the oldest dishes in the archipelago
    • watercress stew, a symbol of rural Gomera cuisine

The menu costs 12 € per person and is not included in the price of the excursion.

If you prefer, you may also bring your own picnic and enjoy it in a natural setting.
