3 days Trekking in La Gomera

Program

Day 1 :  Garajonay National Park – Chipude

The first day offers on a few kilometers a wide range of landscapes. You discover the ridge laurisilva forest, like in a tale. The tortuous trees are covered with moss floating according to the trade winds. Fog often creates there a fantasmagorical atmosphere…Absolutely magic! Then you go down to the other side. You go through several countryside hamlets. You also enjoy spectaculars views to the deep Valle Gran Rey Rural Park with its traditional terrace cultivation.

Walking time : 5h / Gradient : + 500m, -500m

Night : Chipude

Day 2 : Chipude- Alto de Garajonay (island summit) – Imada/Alajeró

The second day route allows you to discover some cultural, geological and botanical treasures of La Gomera. Indeed, you start your walk in the tiny village of Chipude where you can see traditional rural architecture. You get impressed by the Fortaleza, huge geological monument overlooking the first part of your journey. If you wish (N3) you can go up to the island summit (Alto de Garajonay : 1487m) which offers a 360º view to the neighbouring islands. Then you go down to the villages of Imada and Alajero.

N2 : Walking time : 5h /Gradient : +500m, -800m

N3 : Walking time : 7h / Gradient : + 700m, -900m

Night : Alajeró, Imada (45min walking time less), or Playa Santiago

Day 3 : Alajeró – Imada – Benchijigua- Playa Santiago

During this third stage, you will cross spectacular ravines and old villages now abandoned (Lazadoye and Benchijigua).
This course is very interesting on several levels. First at the historical and cultural level. The first half corresponds to the pilgrimage that the inhabitants of Imada take to the church of Benchijigua to attend the procession and traditional festival of San Juan. Along the way, we discover old houses, threshing floors, a watermill (for the gofio), so many witnesses of the old ways of life of the islanders.
The geology is also very striking on this route. We will be able to admire the emblematic Roque de Agando, and the deep valleys, sometimes narrow or very wide, the result of the intense erosion of the island.
At the botanical level, this area is a fine example of the Canarian thermophilic forest.
On the last part of the hike we will discover a real oasis with its palm trees, avocado trees, orange trees, mango trees and its beautiful stone houses.

N2+: Walking time: 5h / Elevation: + 200m, -1100m

Night : Playa Santiago
