Hike N2_Guarimiar & Imada

The route connecting Alajeró, Imada, the Guarimiar ravine and Targa is one of those hikes that truly stay with you. It combines mountain‑side villages, a narrow and monumental ravine, and some of the island’s most expressive geological landscapes.

The Guarimiar ravine is a genuine open book: vertical walls, basaltic dykes, ancient lava flows and erosive formations that reveal how La Gomera has been shaped over millions of years. Walking through it feels like moving among rock giants, where every bend uncovers new textures, colours and volcanic structures.

For many, the narrowest section of the ravine is the heart of the hike: a natural corridor where the light enters at an angle and the walls rise almost parallel.

Although the route is not technically difficult, it can become very demanding in summer: heat accumulates at the bottom of the ravine, and the ascents require good fitness, plenty of water and proper sun protection. It’s a hike to enjoy with calm and preparation.

If I had to choose one place where the island reveals its deepest character, it would be this one. For me, this hike is an instant love affair.
